DK Sessions: URBNSURF Melbourne Vol. 2

Australia’s premier drop knee bodyboarding event, DK Sessions returned to URBNSURF Melbourne for Volume 2. The poolside vibe was electric, with competitors from interstate and Victoria gathering to throw down at the pool. Amongst the crowd of competitors was international DK lord, Michel Copetta who put the pressure on the local boys to perform.

Once again, the world-class engineered waves of URBNSURF delivered the goods with perfect off shore winds all day. Across both left and right breaks, riders showcased technical rail control, powerful hacks, and style that reminded everyone why drop knee holds such a special place in bodyboarding culture.

Popey securing the win, hands down.

The format followed the innovative judging structure introduced in 2024, with each rider selecting their top two wave videos for review courtesy of Flow State from both the left and right wave. After a stacked day of riding, the podium belonged to:

WA boy Dobo, on the way to secure second place.

  • 1st Place: Dane Pope — back-to-back champion with another standout performance.

  • 2nd Place: Mike Dobsonvich — all the way from Western Australia showed clean surf and style.

  • 3rd Place: Tyson Ryan — smooth rail work and strong finishes on the rights.

Honourable mentions also go to Justin Welsh and Grant Molony, who both put down runs worthy of recognition and walked away with runner-up prizes. Not to mention all other competitors who were tearing the bag this year. The standard was high.
