Honourable Mention – APA Annual Photography Awards 2022

For the second consecutive year, Tal Lemmens received an Honourable Mention in the APA Annual Photography Awards, this time in the Fine Art Abstract category for his monochrome image ‘Argent’.

‘Argent’ showcases Tal’s mastery of slow shutter photography — a technique often requiring extreme precision. While traditionally captured using a tripod, Tal executes this method in dynamic ocean conditions, stabilising himself in the water using fins, while hand-holding his camera within a custom underwater housing. This results in sharp focal points with ethereal motion blur, creating imagery that balances control with chaos. These moments are captured during fleeting low-light windows — at sunrise or sunset — when the sea becomes sculptural.

This recognition follows Tal’s success at the 2021 APA Annual Photography Awards, where his images ‘Precipice’ and ‘Ark’ were also awarded Honourable Mentions in the Abstract category.
