A Short Film by Marc Gollenia featuring Tal Lemmens

Consigned to the Sea is an ongoing short film that explores the process behind Tal Lemmens’ ocean photography. From reading weather conditions and working in challenging environments, to the technical and creative decisions that shape each final ocean artwork.

With filming currently happening along the Great Ocean Road, the project blends cinematography with a glimpse into vision most viewers never see. It’s a story about patience, timing, environment, and the relationship between the ocean and the artist working within it. This isn’t about perfection or spectacle. It’s about the reality of creating ocean imagery. Early, cold mornings, heavy conditions, missed moments, technical limits, and the rare alignment when everything comes together.

The film offers a deeper appreciation for what’s involved in each photograph, while highlighting the tools, places, people, and creative vision behind the work.

The project is currently in development, with a 60 second teaser released and a 5-6 minute final film underway. Marc & Tal, are crafting a film that reflects the same values found in Tal’s photography; honesty, restraint, connection, adversity, and respect for the ocean.

As the film continues to develop, we’re open to conversations with brands, organisations, businesses or festivals who feel a genuine connection to the story being told.

The project is moving forward independently, with the tools and production already in place. Any involvement is considered carefully and approached on a case-by-case basis, ensuring alignment with the ethos of the film and the reality of the creative process.
