Tal Lemmens Awarded Special Prize at VIEpa Vienna International Photo Awards 2021

Australian seascape photographer Tal Lemmens has once again captured international recognition — this time at the 2021 VIEpa Vienna International Photo Awards, where his moody ocean photograph ‘Precipice’ was honoured with the Special Prize in the ‘Our World’ category.

Held in Vienna, Austria, the VIEpa Awards are a prestigious global photography competition established during the COVID-19 pandemic to unite visual storytellers through their shared craft. The competition celebrates powerful and emotional visual interpretations of our world, and Tal’s deeply atmospheric ocean photography stood out among thousands of entries from around the globe.

This marks Tal’s second success at VIEpa. In 2020, his image ‘Apex’ won the Gold Medal in the same category, launching his work onto the international stage as one of Australia’s emerging talents in fine art seascape photography.

Precipice Featured in Vienna Gallery Exhibition

Tal’s awarded piece, ‘Precipice’, will be showcased as part of the LIK Summer Photo Festival 2021 at the LIK Galerie – Gallery of Photography in Vienna. The dramatic black-and-white seascape captures the raw and sculptural qualities of the ocean near Point Lonsdale, Victoria, and reflects Tal’s continued exploration of mood, texture, and movement in the sea.

This recognition places Tal alongside a growing number of Australian ocean photographers gaining traction in Europe’s fine art photography scene.
