INTRODUCING: The Monochrome Limited Edition Seascape Series
A sculptural study of the ocean in black and white – by Tal Lemmens
In this new series, I return to the ocean not merely as subject, but as medium. A living, breathing material shaped by light and movement. The Monochrome Limited Edition Series is a study in contrast, tension, and texture; a visual meditation on the architecture of water.
The monochrome image strips away distraction and directs the gaze to gesture, structure, and light.
Without colour, the wave becomes something elemental — an object of form, depth, and feeling. It becomes architecture. Black and white seascapes have long occupied a space between realism and abstraction. In this series, I lean into that ambiguity — allowing each composition to oscillate between the physical and the poetic.
Launched with three inaugural works: Erebus, Tempest, and Reverie, this series invites the viewer to experience the ocean as sculpture. Each piece captures a singular moment of convergence between form and atmosphere, silence and force, rendered in the enduring elegance of the sea. Limited to just ten editions per artwork, these photographs are offered as collectible, museum-grade pieces.
Erebus
Named after the Greek deity of primordial darkness, Erebus is a portrait of stillness within motion. A solitary wave forms, perfectly weighted — emerging from shadow with sculptural clarity and quiet gravity.
Tempest
A crescendo frozen in time. Tempest captures the raw dynamics of water in flux, mid-fold, mid-crash. It’s an ode to tension — to the ocean’s choreography of collapse and resurgence.
Reverie
An ocean folding into itself — contorted. Reverie explores a study of the oceans textures, marble and cold isolation, offering a meditative abstraction of the sea’s subconscious.
A Powerful Triptych
While each print stands alone, these three works were composed with interplay in mind. Displayed together, Erebus, Tempest, and Reverie form a visual triptych — a sculptural sequence exploring movement, shadow, and stillness.
For collectors and interior designers alike, the series offers an opportunity to create a statement installation — one that invites repeated looking and emotional resonance.
